Mastering Piano Technique with BubblHandz: A Step-by-Step Guide

Mastering Piano Technique with BubblHandz: A Step-by-Step Guide

Welcome to your guide on integrating BubblHandz into your piano practice routine! These innovative tools are designed to enhance and train your hand posture, ensuring you play with precision and comfort. Just like training wheels on a bicycle, BubblHandz are here to help you learn the ropes before you ride freely. Here's how to use them effectively:

1. Preparation:

- Clean Hands: Start with clean, dry hands. This ensures a comfortable fit without any slippage.

- Choose the Right Size: Ensure you select BubblHandz that match your hand size. See our sizing chart to help ensure you have the perfect pair for your hand size. They should fit snugly but not restrict blood flow or be uncomfortable in any way.

2. Strap On Your BubblHandz:

-While holding BubblHandz flat side down on the palm of your hand, take the included super soft straps and insert the straps logo-side facing up through the channel.  (See pictures on our “getting started” page for more details.)

-When both straps are fitted to the BubblHandz, place the bulbous part into the palm of your hand and hold it there with your fingers in a fist shape.  Then gently wrap the strap around your wrist, in the same spot on your wrist as you would a watch,  and feed the end through the cinch and then secure the Bubblhandz to your wrist, snug but not tight.

-Repeat with the other Bubblhandz on your opposite hand.

3. Ensuring Proper Fit:

- Snug but Comfortable: The fit should be snug enough to keep Bubblhandz in place but not so tight as to cause discomfort or numbness. You should be able to move your fingers freely, and still have flexibility in your wrists as well.

- Check Movement: Wiggle your fingers and make sure you can move them independently within the BubblHandz. If they're too tight, adjust the straps accordingly.  If there is any discomfort while wearing them, you may have them too tight or on improperly. Simply remove them and go through the process to put them on again.

4. Beginning Your Practice Session:

- Start with Basics: Begin your practice session with simple exercises or scales. BubblHandz will help you “feel the bubble” to allow you to guide your fingers into the correct arching position.

- Focus on Technique: Pay attention to how your hand feels, and if you are “feeling the bubble” gently pressed into your palm.  BubblHandz help in maintaining the natural curvature of your hand, essential for piano playing by using that haptic sensation of the “bubble” in your palm.

5. Transitioning Without BubblHandz:

- Gradual Removal: After a few minutes or when you feel comfortable, try removing the BubblHandz. Play a few notes or scales without them.

- Compare Posture: Notice if your hand naturally retains the correct posture. If it does, great! If not, put them back on for a few more minutes and make mental notes on the position of your hands, wrists and elbows to put into practice when you remove them next time.

6. Practice Routine:

- Regular Use: Integrate BubblHandz into your daily practice. Use them at the start of your session and then take them off to see if you can maintain posture, thus training the muscle memory for good posture.

- Progressively Decrease Use: Over time, decrease the amount of time you spend with BubblHandz on, much like reducing the use of training wheels on a bike. Aim to play without them for longer periods as your muscle memory develops.

-Advanced Playing: As you advance, you may not need BubblHandz at all or just as helpful reminders of the bubble shaping of your hands and you can now progress forward in fluid wrist movements and more advanced playing forms.

7. Tips for Success:

- Consistency is Key: The more consistently you use BubblHandz, the quicker you'll develop the muscle memory needed for proper hand posture.

- Listen to Your Body: If at any point you feel discomfort beyond the initial acclimation period of wearing a new device, reassess your fit or take a break.

- Practice Patience: Remember, just like any learning tool, BubblHandz are aids in your journey. Patience and regular practice are crucial.

BubblHandz are your stepping stones to mastering piano technique. Use them as a guide, not a crutch. By regularly practicing with and without them, you'll train your hands to naturally assume the correct posture, ensuring your piano practice is both effective and enjoyable. Happy playing!
